Commencement of Judicial Review Proceedings

Following the successful legal challenge by CHIS issued in respect of Bristol City Council's approval in February last year of Bristol Zoo's planning Application for 62 dwellings on the West Car Park site in College Road, and the renewed approval given to a slightly modified scheme at the end of last year, CHIS has issued a further legal challenge. A pre-action protocol letter was sent to Bristol City Council on January 18th claiming the granting of approval to have been unlawful on at least 4 grounds. The Council are contesting the claim. Accordingly CHIS has commenced formal Judicial Review proceedings and papers were lodged with the Planning Court on January 31st. CHIS will update members as soon as a timescale for the hearing is known.
