Sarah Guppy Talk CANCELLED!

Feb 21, 2023

CANCELLED!

Apologies that this event had to be cancelled at short notice. We are rescheduling it and will post the new date and time here.

Sarah Guppy Talk Tuesday 21st February 2023 Apostle Room 7.30pm (wine or soft drinks) for 8.00 pm start for the Talk by Sheila Hannon.

Sarah Guppy (1770-1852) is one of Bristol’s most interesting people. She was multi-talented but best known as an engineer. In 1811 she was the first woman to design a bridge - it was a suspension bridge and she was a strong influence in Brunei’s life and work. Sheila Hannon has made a special study of Sarah Guppy and some members may have gone on the historical walks she leads in the city. Sheila is well-known in the field of drama; in 1996 she co-founded the Show of Strength Theatre Company, which is still going strong. We are fortunate that she has agreed to give us this talk and to have the opportunity to learn about this exceptional lady, who lived for many years in Richmond Hill.
