The Historical King Arthur

Sep 22, 2022

We welcome, once again, the ever popular Professor Ron Hutton who will talk to us about the best known legendary hero in Western tradition who has enjoyed this popularity from as long ago as the 12th century. Was there a genuine leader behind the legend?

This talk will look at evidence in historical texts and archaeological finds and also at the way in which a general disposition among experts to believe in a historical Arthur in the years around 1970 turned into a general tendency not to believe in one by the 1990s. Professor Hutton will suggest that the issue is certainly not yet closed.

Ron Hutton's talks are always both informative and highly entertaining so come early to our usual venue, the Apostle Room at Clifton Cathedral, Pembroke Road, where there is plenty of off-street free parking. Doors will open at 7.30pm with the talk commencing at 8pm. The usual refreshments will be available. Please note that this event is on a THURSDAY.
