The August CHIS trip will take us for a guided tour of the most stunning and surprising art collection in the country. Cézanne, Monet, Manet,Van Gogh, Renoir, Corot, Millet, Daumier, Turner, Rodin are all represented in this little publicised collection, formed by Gwendoline & Margaret Davies between 1907 and 1921 and now housed in the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff.
Group tours of 15, led by an expert volunteer, will last 30-45 minutes and there are excellent facilities at the museum for coffee, snacks and lunches as well as pleasant gardens in the vicinity for picnics.
After lunch we will take a short drive to Castell Coch, a 19th century Gothic Revival castle, built between 1871 and 1891 as a summer country residence for the fabulously wealthy 3rd Marquess of Bute. The elaborate and richly decorated interiors are all intact and contain their original, specially made furnishings. We shall see the Banqueting Hall, the Drawing Room, Lord Bute's bedroom and Lady Bute's bedroom, all triumphs of High Victorian interiors.
The cost is £28 per person. For further information or to make a reservation please contact RoseMary or Linda. There are a few places currently available for non-members.
